Covid-19 has kept Rockland from pursuing the Puerto Rico mission field in the way we had hoped. Going forward with God’s direction, we will continue evaluating the feasibility of creating an ongoing ministry in this area.
Initially, we worked with Vision Puerto Rico, taking a couple of exploratory, ministry trips to Puerto Rico in hopes of establishing a mission field there with a sister church. We have given supplies and financial support to the New Jerusalem Church in Bayamon, Puerto Rico enabling them to construct a badly needed stage and alter. We also provided buckets of necessary items to individual people in the church and community. Recently we made a donation to provide Bibles and Covid protective items to eleven Puerto Rican churches.
If God leads us to continue this ministry we pray he will also bring forth a member or members of the Rockland congregation with a passion to lead and oversee this mission area.
Ministry outside the United States, yet leave your passport home!
In Puerto Rico, Rockland partners with Vision Puerto Rico with a clear focus – Spread the Gospel while meeting the physical and spiritual needs of the island people.
Based on mainland Puerto Rico, this ministry connects local churches in the U.S. to specific churches within Puerto Rico. Willing to share Christ’s great love by any means, mission teams work to provide support and assistance in a number of ways:
- Partner with local pastors to address community needs
- Provide aid and support to those communities devastated by recent natural disasters
- Visiting homebound seniors
- Creating worship ministry opportunities
- Vacation Bible School
- Youth hanging out with local students
- Basically … being the hands and feet of Jesus wherever needed
Vision Puerto Rico’s plans for 2020 are to coordinate teams to help in 3 other neighborhoods on the
island and surrounding islands. This includes church plants in La Perla and Vieques, as well as the Quebradas Candelarias Arenas when it is available.
