Important Note for the Rockland Family
Many of you heard this morning during our worship services in-person or online about Lori Fullmer's recent cancer diagnosis. Below is a note she sent to her Kids Ministry deacon team and that I sent to the elders. I feel it's best for you to hear from her in her own words.
Good morning, kids’ team –
We wanted to share some news with you...I was recently diagnosed with colon cancer and will be undergoing surgery on November 18, at which time they will remove a portion of my colon and several lymph nodes (for further testing). From the scans and other test results, however, it is anticipated that I will undergo chemo following surgery. I’m doing well physically, other than cancer that has taken up residence, and I know that I’m in the Lord’s hands!
Jim, Chris, and I have been working on a plan for coverage of my responsibilities for mid-November through the end of the year, especially in Kids’ Ministry. We will wait to see what I learn about treatment before we worry about next year...Heidi Barnett, who was formerly on staff with Rockland, has agreed to help fill the gap (yay!) and will be here on Sunday mornings...I know you will be in great hands!
Sometimes life takes us down a path which we wish we could change or skip right past. This is one of those for me, yet I know beyond a doubt that God has me in the palm of His hand. I know He has a plan and a purpose for this, and He will use it for His glory! I am so thankful to be a part of a church community that cares so deeply for its people. The staff alone has shown me incredible support thus far. I feel incredibly loved and covered in prayer.
I would covet your prayers as I begin this journey. Know that I will have LOTS of time on my hands so I will be lifting all of you in prayer more than normal. I love and care deeply for each one of you. Thank you for the way you share the love of Jesus with our kids!
I would like to ask the congregation to pray for Lori with focus, fervor, and faith. Pray continually and ask that the Lord will keep her in His perfect care and she could sense the peace of Christ and be healed completely. (Also, consider if you might be able to serve in the Kid's Ministry for a season while we love Lori through this time. Just reply to this email and let me know!)
To God be the Glory,
