Elder's Corner- Feb/Mar Chimes
Your elders met four times since our last update, always beginning with prayer asking our Lord for guidance and direction, and finishing with prayers for specific individuals in the congregation needing prayer.
In October and November, we began the process of developing goals for 2020. We are working on a five-year strategic plan and are seeking to put the next year goals into that framework. Initial goals include 1) Enhancing the overall worship experience by making it compelling enough that it is something not to be missed; 2) Expand our caring ministry through training and mobilization of volunteers; 3) Engage more people in mission work. These are a work in progress and we will be praying over these over this next year.
We began the stewardship campaign and the budget process. Despite attendance being up for the year overall our giving dropped in October and November. In addition, we have received fewer returned pledges and, as a result, the budgeted income is difficult to project. We had a record number of people join the church and attendance is growing, so the financial situation is puzzling and difficult to interpret as we build the budget for next year. Pray for us as we seek God’s wisdom in this area.
We continued to review the proposed constitution and bylaw changes. We had a special meeting to make changes after receiving input from the deacons and from the town hall meetings (over 120 people! Thanks for the input!). The final proposed constitution and bylaws were finished in time to meet the 30-day publication deadline and can be found online.
The slate of candidates for deacons and elders was finalized and the planning was begun to have a leadership meeting in February.
